Advisory Council
The AAANM Advisory Council provides guidance to the Board of Directors on the development of a comprehensive and integrated service system for older persons, adults with disabilities, and caregivers residing in Antrim, Benzie, Charlevoix, Emmet, Grand Traverse, Kalkaska, Leelanau, Manistee, Missaukee, and Wexford counties.
Advisory Council members play a key role in supporting AAANM’s mission by demonstrating a strong commitment to its goals and dedicating time to prepare for and attend meetings. They actively represent the needs of older adults, caregivers, and adults with disabilities, offering valuable feedback on programs, services, and initiatives.
Council members exhibit integrity and ethical standards in all actions, advocate for the needs of older adults and caregivers, and work collaboratively as part of a team. Additionally, they help recruit new members, review and recommend the Annual Implementation Plan (AIP) and Multi-Year Plan (MYP) to the Board of Directors, evaluate requests for proposals, and make recommendations.
They also share information with the Board on senior issues, participate in public hearings, and contribute to advocacy efforts, including involvement with the Michigan Senior Advocates Council when requested.
The Advisory Council is comprised of individuals and representatives of community organizations. The Council consists of more than 50% older adults (age 60 and older) who are eligible to participate in AAANM programs, representatives of older persons including caregivers, health care organizations, veteran organziations, nutrition and social service providers, tribes, persons with leadership experience in the private and voluntary sectors, and local elected officials. Diversity is encouraged and highly valued on the Advisory Council to ensure a wide range of perspectives and ideas are represented.
Advisory Council members are required to declare any conflicts of interest and comply with AAANM’s Code of Ethics statement.
